- CARBINITE METAL COATINGS TO DISPLAY THE CARBINITE LSR, PISTON-ENGINE,WHEEL-DRIVEN RECORD CONTENDER AT SHOW-
NEW YORK, NY; October 4, 2017 – ALUMINUM USA (ALUMINUM), the event dedicated to the United States’ aluminum industry, and Carbinite Metal Coatings, a leading manufacturer of Textured Carbide Coatings for Process Improvements, today announced the Carbinite Streamliner will be featured in Booth 445 on the show floor. ALUMINUM USA takes place October 25-26, 2017 at Music City Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
“As advanced as this car is, we realize we still have much to learn”, said Rob Freyvogel, founder and president of Carbinite Metal Coatings (www.carbinite.com). “We use the car to research aerodynamics and engine/drive train efficiencies. During the off-season, the Carbiliner visits local high schools, tech schools, and colleges. Part of the mission of Carbinite LSR is to educate young people. We want to inspire students to pursue careers in science, technology, and manufacturing.”
The Carbinite LSR streamliner is a unique design, loosely conceived from the successful rocket car designs of the early 1970’s. The high laminar aero design keeps air attached to the fuselage, and the rear wing generates maximum down force with minimum drag. It is a piston-engine, wheel-driven car. The 2600+ HP is generated by the twin-turbo charged big block engine. It runs on four wheels: two in the outer wheel pods with specially-made tires, two inline wheels in the front machined from billet aluminum. The body is a custom epoxy glass composite with active aerodynamics. The only Carbinite on the vehicle is on the brake pedal and cockpit floor.
Carbinite Land Speed Racing (www.carbinitelsr.com) is a passion project led by Freyvogel. Over the last seven years, the crew designed and built the Carbinite LSR Streamliner (Carbiliner) to set the Wheel-Driven Record at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Wendover, Utah. The current Wheel-Driven record is 458 MPH. The Carbiliner crew’s goal is to crush that record by running 500+ MPH. During Bonneville SpeedWeek in August of 2016, the Carbiliner reached the top speed of 371 before engine issues ended the trip. Significant modifications, including changing the fuel system to alcohol, were introduced for the 68th Annual Bonneville SpeedWeek held in Wendover, Utah.
